Are You Tuff Enough?
by Brian Curtis
Many of us have loved ones, friends or know someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer. The physical and emotional challenges of battling this disease are difficult and strenuous not only for those directly going through treatment, but on families and relationships as well. Bringing awareness and sharing personal experiences are important for those going through this battle and for preventing others from having to.
In 2013, at the age of 29, my wife, Liz was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she successfully overcame. In August of 2017, the cancer had come back and is currently classified as stage 4 breast cancer. Her determined strength to not give into this disease is nothing less than inspiring and admirable. Always thinking of others and with her usual positive attitude, she continues to look for ways to help others and make a difference in the lives of everyone she meets.
There is no doubt that Liz is the toughest one between the two of us. When discussing one day a way to bring further awareness for breast cancer she asked if there was anything that we could do with hunting that would be unique. Hunting is my passion, not hers, so I was immediately shocked, though she is very supportive. After going through a few ideas the concept of hunting with something pink was suggested ….where she replied… “You wouldn’t be tough enough to wear pink.” So the challenge was made to me and is now being passed on to you.
WHAT IS TUFF ENOUGH?
Tuff Enough is a challenge for all hunters, huntresses, and those who enjoy the outdoors. The challenge is simple. Are you “TUFF ENOUGH” to wear or hunt with something pink during your time in the field this season? Go as big as you want from sporting a pink ribbon to carrying a pink arrow or wearing a pink hat…. it’s up to you! Show that you are “TUFF ENOUGH” to wear PINK this season.
“TUFF ENOUGH” is planned to be a yearly short film for Breast Cancer Awareness as part of the Territory, self-filmed hunting series, www.territoryfilm.com. The objective of the “TUFF ENOUGH” short film(s) is to express the difficulty and extended challenges of pursuing big game animals while wearing pink, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Embracing the challenges, seemingly stacked against the hunter, the hunt becomes a metaphoric representation of the challenges faced by those who are battling breast cancer. The first short film of the Tuff Enough Breast Cancer Awareness series will be an archery antelope spot & stalk hunt in Wyoming. This inaugural self-filed short film will be released the first week of October 2018 for breast cancer awareness month. The filmed experience is intended to capture the difficulties of the hunt both physically & mentally while wearing pink. Challenges for pushing through the difficult times will be punctuated with a determined persistence for overcoming the odds.
Participation in the Tuff Enough challenge is simple, just wear or hunt with something pink. It is primarily asked to share this challenge of sporting pink this season with family, friends, social media followers, and anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Through sponsor and individual contributions, Breast Cancer awareness and raising funding, for furthering research, are the goals of “TUFF ENOUGH”. For those who are interested in donating to the cause then there is an option for that as well. All net proceeds from the Tuff Enough challenge will be donated to The Breast Cancer Charities of America…iGoPink. Options for donating can be found on the Tuff Enough Website at www.tuff-enough.com as well as Tuff Enough photos, apparel, and updates on the project. No contribution is too small as it all goes towards an important cause. The more exposure the greater the awareness.
