Texas Buck Fight
While hunting on Turk Ranch in Texas, I was lucky enough to capture the video of this interesting buck fight. I was sitting a stand overlooking a several small ridges that fed into a large valley with a deer feeder. I had been watching a small whitetail buck at the feeder for several minutes when I caught movement coming from my left. Right away, I knew it was a large animal, but I thought it was a goat. Finally, I realized that it was a mature Texas whitetail buck with both of its antlers snapped off just above the bases. The smaller buck tried to defend the feer, but to my amazement the more mature buck was able to fend off the competitor, even without any headgear.

Texas Deer Harvested
Although I did not harvest a deer that evening, I was able to harvest a mature whitetail buck later that year. During my earlier visit to Turk Ranch, I passed up several mature whitetail bucks, including the big, broken-antlered buck. One buck that I had passed was a really old 10-point. We had several trail-camera pictures of the buck, and we knew the buck was 6-plus years old, but, at the time, I was looking for a better scoring buck. When I returned to the ranch later in the year, my two sons accompanied me. When this old, mature 10-point returned to the same stand, and my youngest son was with me — the time was right. Knowing the buck was a good management deer, and wanting my son to enjoy a successful hunt, I took the buck. My oldest son was able to harvest a javelina, while accompanied by his grandfather as well. It was a special hunt, spent with my sons.
